Detailed Bio
Teo Woon Chun is the Senior Assistant for Administrative and Curriculum Affairs at SJKC Peay Min, Johor, Malaysia, and a trailblazer in integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into English Language Teaching (ELT). Holding a Bachelor of Teaching in TESL (First Class Honours, 2019) from IPGK Temenggong Ibrahim and a Master of Education in TESL (2023) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Teo is recognized internationally, including Google for Education Certified Trainer, Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, Microsoft Certified Educator and Apple Learning Coach. As the leader of Google Educators Group (GEG) Kota Tinggi, he has trained over 250 teachers in digital pedagogies, aligning with Malaysia’s CEFR framework and HRDC claimability. His extensive publications, including over 15 journal articles (some indexed in WoS, Scopus, ERA and MyCite) and 30 English workbooks, focus on technology-enhanced learning, supporting TNTELT’s mission to advance innovative ELT practices for global competitiveness.
Impact Story:
In 2023, Teo spearheaded the implementation of his GAMLET (Gamified Home-Based Learning Model) philosophy at SJKC Peay Min, Johor. Believing that mastery learning, gamification, flipped learning, and constructivism are key to ESL learners’ language success, he developed a series of innovations. These include the SuPerMan GAMLET Kit for simple present tense intervention, GAMLET Pictionary for vocabulary acquisition, and the GREAIT Module for communicative writing competence. The GAMLET Pictionary initiative, specifically targeting Level 2 ESL learners and aligned with CEFR standards, significantly enhanced vocabulary retention and boosted classroom engagement, evidenced by participation metrics. Extending his impact, Teo also trained 70 heads of English Panels across primary schools in the Kota Tinggi district to adopt similar ICT strategies. Notably, he successfully instilled his innovative beliefs in his pupils, guiding them to create their own innovation titled ‘Word Wizards’ using Google Slides. This pupil-led project earned both the Platinum Award and the High Impact Innovation Award at the National Matriculation Technology Festival (MaTechFest) 2025. As one pupil noted, ‘Mr. Teo’s games made learning English fun and easy!’ The resounding success of these GAMLET-driven initiatives strongly underscores TNTELT’s commitment to measurable, technology-driven ELT outcomes.
