Jan Blake
Abu Bakar Mohamed Razali graduated from the Department of Teacher Education, College of Education, Michigan State University. Abu Bakar graduated with doctoral degree of philosophy in Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education, with graduate specialization on Language and Literacy Education. Abu Bakar currently works as associate professor at the Department of Language and Humanities Education at Faculty of Educational Studies, University Putra of Malaysia (UPM). Abu Bakar’s research interests are on the teaching and learning of English as a second language. He is particularly interested in reading and writing instruction and digital technology. Abu Bakar is also interested in creative writing and popular culture in the teaching and learning of English as a second language. He hopes to delve more deeply into the field of English language reading and writing instruction and digital technology especially in the teaching and learning of English as a second language.
Andrew Moody is Professor of English at the University of Macau where he teaches courses in sociolinguistics and world Englishes.
Before beginning his PhD at the University of Kansas (USA) he taught English for two years at the Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute (China).
His PhD dissertation in English (1997) was a corpus study of inter-ethnic and intra-ethnic writing styles found in e-mail messages from Hong Kong students,
a dissertation that became an early examination of Hong Kong English. After completing the PhD and while working in Japan he began investigating the role of English
in Japanese popular culture generally, and especially in J-Pop music. He has written extensively on the role of English in East Asian and Southeast Asian popular culture
and published in World Englishes, English Language and Teaching Journal, English Today, Asian Englishes and has contributed essays to several collections focussing on
language in popular culture and in world Englishes. His most recent research examines the various roles of dialect in popular music and he has edited a collection of
essays investigating the role of English in Asian pop cultures, published by Hong Kong University Press. He is the author of Macau’s Languages in Society and
Education: Planning in a Multilingual Ecology (2021) published by Springer Press and the editor of The Oxford Handbook of Southeast Asian Englishes.
He is currently working on a monograph entitled World Englishes and Performance (Cambridge University Press) in addition to editing several projects related to
the language of popular culture. Since January 2018 he has served as the editor of the journal English Today (Cambridge University Press). He currently serves as
the Head of the English Department at the University of Macau.
Prof. Dr Anealka Aziz Hussin is an accomplished academician and researcher in the field of Education, with a focus on e-learning, corpus-based studies, readability studies,
and ELT materials development. She is currently affiliated with the Akademi Pengajian Bahasa at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam, Selangor.
She has an extensive academic background, having completed a Ph.D. in Education from UiTM in 2010, an MSc. in TESL from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2003, an MSc in Educational Technology from UPM in 2002, and a Postgraduate Diploma in TESL from Institut Teknologi MARA in 1997. Antony John Kunnan holds a Ph.D. from UCLA and is currently a Senior Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. He has had a long and distinguished career in language testing and assessment, covering many parts of the globe. His trajectory was already marked with distinction when he won the Jacqueline Ross Outstanding TOEFL Dissertation Award for his research. Since that time, he has held academic posts/professorships in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Yerevan (Armenia), Singapore, Taiwan, Guangzhou, and Macau. . He has also had visiting posts at UCLA, USC, Chulalongkorn University and Vietnam National University. He has edited and authored 12 books and over 80 journal articles or book chapters. His initial work on validity and structural equation modelling has led to a more recent focus on ethics, fairness, and policy. During his career, Dr Antony Kunnan has given over 135 invited talks and workshops across 40 countries, demonstrating his considerable international reputation and impact.
Other highlights include that he was the founding editor of Language Assessment Quarterly; the founding President of the Asian Association for Language Assessment; the editor of the four-volume Companion to Language Assessment; a former ILTA President, Vice President and Treasurer; and a prominent thinker in conceptualizing test fairness. Cecilia Guanfang Zhao holds an M.A. from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from New York University, and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of English at
University of Macau. Her research so far has focused on issues of language testing, writing assessment, and L2 academic literacy. Her work in this area has appeared in handbooks,
encyclopedia volumes, and various international academic journals such as Applied Linguistics, Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, TESOL Quarterly, Assessing Writing,
Journal of Second Language Writing, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, ESP, and System, among others. Cecilia is also a recipient of two international best dissertation awards
(Jacqueline Ross TOEFL Dissertation Award and Christopher Brumfit Ph.D./Ed.D. Thesis Award) and multiple regional research and teaching awards. She has served as Secretary for Asian
Association for Language Assessment (AALA), Nominating Committee Chair for International Language Testing Association (ILTA), Executive Board member for China Association of Language
Testing and Assessment (CALTA), and reviewer/editorial board member/section editor for various academic journals.
Chua Kok Yee graduated from Universiti Malaya with an accounting degree, and has decades of experience in the corporate world. His writing career started in 2007 when he co-authored
News From Home. In 2010, he published his first collection of short stories, Without Anchovies. Five stories from these book are currently required reading for the English Literature
papers in SPM and STPM. His short stories also appeared in various anthologies and periodicals throughout the decade. In 2022, his debut novel Not A Monster won the Fixi Novo Malaysia
Novel competition. A year later, his collection of short stories The Muse and Other Stories was published by Penguin Random House SEA. He is also the artist and writer of the Bleeding
Scars series of graphic novels. In 2024, he was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Hui Geng is passionate about writing stories, poems, and travelogues. She holds a Ph.D. in English Language from Universiti Putra Malaysia and is currently a senior lecturer at Guilin University of Technology in China. Her research interests are in the areas of corpus linguistics, academic writing, EAP, ESP, discourse analysis, language assessment, creative writing, literature, and translation. She is the copy editor for the International Journal of Education and Literacy Studies (IJELS) and the assistant editor for the ASEAN Journal of Applied Linguistics (ASJAL). As a member of the Poetry Institute of China, the Writers Association and Translators Association of Shanxi, she has translated books titled Buddhist Flower of Myanmar (A Photography Collection of Burmese Landscape by Chinese Artists) and Myanmar Painting (From Worship to Self-Imaging), and edited the books Tests and Us – A Collection of Real Stories (Volumes 2 & 3). She has published several articles in SSCI- and Scopus-indexed journals.
Ikhsanudin is an Associate Professor at Universitas Tanjungpura, Indonesia, and the founding
president of the English Language Teaching Materials (ELTeaM) association. His academic focus lies
in ELT materials development, teaching methodology, and the professional development of
educators. As Editor-in-Chief of a nationally indexed academic journal in ELT and a reviewer for
internationally indexed language journals, he has facilitated the publication of numerous impactful
studies by researchers worldwide. In addition to presenting at various conferences across Indonesia,
Ikhsanudin has been an invited speaker at over thirty international conferences in countries
including the UK, USA, Germany, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and the Philippines,
contributing significantly to global discourses in English language education. He is also a registered
assessor for the Indonesian National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and the
Independent Accreditation Body for Educational Higher Education Institutions (LAMDIK). Moreover,
Ikhsanudin actively collaborates with local English teacher working groups to enhance teaching
practices and materials development.
Jan Blake is an internationally renowned storyteller, consultant, mentor, plenary speaker and IATEFL Patron. She has been performing world-wide, teaching and delivering storytelling
workshops since 1986. Jan has appeared at most major international storytelling festivals - leads storytelling workshops for schools and universities and has been a contributor to BBC
Radio programmes. She is currently storytelling advisor and presenter for the CBeebies/ BBC Philharmonic programme, ‘Musical Storyland.’ She is also storytelling consultant to Barnardo’s SEEN.
SEEN is a Barnardo’s initiative building a core foundation of knowledge, a network of people and advocacy for those with authentic experience We are working to achieve a system change in the
provision of services to tackle the disproportionate outcomes which children and young people of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage face.
Career highlights include storyteller in-residence at Hay Festival, artist in-residence at the Southbank Centre, the Viljandi International Folk Music Festival in Estonia and TEDx Warsaw & TEDx Manchester.
In 2011 as part of an Arts and Kids Celebration of Children & the Arts, it was her greatest honour to tell stories in the presence of King Charles and Queen Camilla (then Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles) and other dignitaries, at the Royal Academy of Arts. In the same year she told stories at Marlborough College in the presence of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
As part of the World Shakespeare Festival in 2012, Jan was the curator for Shakespeare’s Stories, a landmark exhibition that explored themes of journey and identity, in conjunction with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
She has developed relationships with several major organisations, including the National Theatre - where she spent a decade as the Storytelling Consultant - BBC Philharmonic Orchestra; London Philharmonic Orchestra; Royal Geographical Society; Natural History Museum; Barnardo’s UNHCR; and The British Council. Jan was recently appointed patron of The International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL).
Jan is consistently innovating, creating, performing and working in partnership with the Crick Crack Club and Apples and Snakes Poetry, proving that Storytelling is not just for children.
When not doing that, she spends her time as a storyteller working in schools, developing teaching tools which help children to practice active listening and speaking skills.
Originally subsidised in 2005 by the London Borough of Westminster Excellence in Cities Programme in a bid to promote Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in the classroom, Jan’s Bedtime Stories Project was created for primary schools, and she most recently completed a residency at St. Lukes Primary School, Manchester, a role which will be extended into the autumn next term.

In 2021 she launched her own online storytelling school, the Akua Storytelling Project. The school is devoted to developing a new generation of international storytellers, as well as helping teachers to become great storytellers in the classroom.

In 2013, The Old Woman, The Buffalo, and The Lion of Manding created and performed with musicians Kouame and Raymond Sereba toured to acclaim winning a British Award for Storytelling Excellence (BASE) for outstanding adaptation of a classical text. In the same year she was also awarded the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation Award (Brand Laureate) for the World’s Leading Storyteller and contribution to the world of literature.

Associate Professor Dr. Jirada Wudthayagorn is the Director of the Chulalongkorn
University Language Institute (CULI) in Bangkok, Thailand. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied
Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, as a recipient of the Royal Thai
Government Scholarship. Dr. Wudthayagorn has held significant roles in language
assessment, including serving as the immediate past President of the Asian Association of
Language Assessment (AALA) and as the board member of National Institute of
Educational Testing Service (NIETS). She has contributed to various research projects
throughout her career, such as mapping the Chulalongkorn University Test of English
Proficiency (CU-TEP) to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Her
research interests encompass language assessment, language policy, and quantitative

Dr. Laleh Khojasteh is an associate professor in the Department of English Language at the School of Paramedical Sciences, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran. She specializes in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), AI-assisted writing, and academic writing, and has published several research papers in these areas.
Lilliati Ismail is an associate professor and head of the Language and Humanities Department at the Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Prior to joining UPM, she was an
English language teacher in several secondary schools in Selangor, Malaysia and a lecturer at a teacher training college. Dr. Lilliati has received several grants in the field of English language
education including from Cambridge Assessment English, UK. She is an editorial board member of Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (PJSSH), and her research articles have been
published in numerous journals including System, the International Journal of Multilingualism, and Education and Information Technologies. Her research interests include grammar instruction,
teacher training, and task-based language teaching.
Mallika Vasugi Govindarajoo is a Professor in UNITAR International University and Dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities. Dr.Mallika has had more than 40 years of experience in the education industry having served under the Ministry of Education, Malaysia as a high school teacher and later as advisor of the Trust school transformation project under Leap Ed before taking up the appointment in UNITAR. Dr Mallika has also led research projects in UNITAR focusing on secondary school education. She has participated in many National and International conferences as featured presenter, key note speaker and forum panellist and moderator. She has been a columnist with The Star, a leading Malaysian daily for more than 30 years and writes for the column, Teacher Talk. Dr.Mallika’s main field of interest is creative writing and some of her short stories have won national awards. Mallika has also participated and presented at creative writing conferences in different parts of Asia.
Ng Yu Jin holds an academic background, with a Ph.D. in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language), a Master of Science in TESL, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronics.
This diverse educational foundation enables him to offer a unique perspective and interdisciplinary approach to the field. He has also served as a journal paper reviewer, contributing to the
advancement of research in various fields. His expertise in corpus-based studies, corpus linguistics (word list studies), and vocabulary teaching and learning has garnered some recognition
within the academic community via his numerous publications and research and innovation competition. Through some of his experience, he has shed light on effective strategies for vocabulary
acquisition, utilising corpus-based approaches, and promoting an enhanced understanding of language usage patterns.
Nooreen Noordin holds a doctoral degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia in the field of Teaching English as a Second Language. She is an associate professor at the Department of Language and Humanities
Education, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her research interests are on technology-enhanced language learning, content-based instruction, learning preferences and instructional
best practices. She has authored and co-authored several book chapters and journal papers. She has also supervised and co-supervised over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students, enabling them to
complete their research dissertations successfully and has led 7 out of 14 research projects under various grant schemes such as IRPA, FRGS, RUGS, Putra Grant and CADe, UPM in areas ranging from use of
technology in English language teaching and learning, best teaching practices, to motivation in language learning. She currently holds multiple positions in academia, such as an adjunct professor,
an advisory board member for a graduate program, and an advisor for the TESL club. Nooreen has received various accolades, such as the Excellence Service Award, the Best Academic Advisor Award,
and the Best Presenter award, along with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in multiple international teaching and learning competitions. Additionally, she has been honoured with the Vice-Chancellor's
Fellowship Award in the Teaching Category.
Associate Professor Dr Norwati Roslim is a Coordinator and a lecturer at the Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Cawangan Negeri Sembilan, Kampus Rembau, Malaysia. She graduated
from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom (B.Ed. (Honours) in ESOL) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (M. Sc. in TESL and Ph. D in TESL). Her research work includes Teaching English as a Second
Language and Corpus Linguistics. Her research articles have been published in various scopus-indexed journals. Her most-cited works are “Textbook representation of prepositions” and “Exploring movies for
language teaching and learning at the tertiary level”. Her recent publication is “Undergraduates' Attitudes of Writing and Views towards Mind-Mapping as a Pre-Writing Strategy”. She shares her work in
local and international conferences as a presenter and a keynote speaker. Her recent presentation was at the 22nd AsiaTEFL Conference as a paper presenter titled “OER Materials Design: A Platform for
Expository Essay Writing” and at the 5th International Conference on ELT as a keynote speaker on a paper titled “English Language Teaching: The New Norm”. One of her best presentations was at the Research
Seminar on Exploring New Approaches in Textbook Research which she shared her work on “A Guide for Corpus-based Research: Prepositions in a Textbook Corpus”. She is also the founder of “Language Café”,
an enrichment project to enhance English language teaching and learning. Workshops on this project have been conducted locally and internationally. She has received several awards for her teaching,
publications and innovation from the university.
Pearlly bears wide and deep experience in training cum coaching of young and novice artistes in the entertainment industry i.e. in acting, artistic expression, voice and speech and social etiquette.
2024 is her 41st year working as an actress. Her body of work spans 3 mediums, namely, theatre, film and television, with credits in theatre since 1983, has lent her name to 15 features, 15 short films and countless television productions wearing different hats in production work.
Pearlly first took on the challenging role of portraying Emily Gan, the protagonist of an award-winning monodrama penned by Singaporean playwright, Stella Kon, entitled Emily of Emerald Hill (EOEH) in 1990. 34 years on she is still in popular demand to reprise this role.
Treading the floor-boards of theatres in those beaded Nyonya slippers while portraying this role to critical acclaim, Pearlly re-lived Emily Gan in all the major cities of East & West Malaysia: Thrice in Singapore, once each at Guangzhou, China, Sydney, Wollongong and Adelaide, Australia, and Vancouver, Canada. Punchalee Wasanasomsihti graduated with a B.A. (2nd Class Honors) in English from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand and also holds an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a doctorate in Language
Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A. She is currently an associate professor at Chulalongkorn University Language Institute (CULI) where she has been teaching and supervising
undergraduate and graduate students for more than three decades. She is currently serving her second term as the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Language Institute which is in charge of
offering English language courses to more than 10,000 students each semester. She is also the Director of the English as an International Language Program, an international and interdisciplinary program
of Chulalongkorn University Graduate School and the editor-in-chief of PASAA Journal, a Scopus-indexed publication (Quartile 2) and the oldest journal in English language teaching and learning in Thailand.
She has published widely in national and international journals and constantly gives presentations on various topics related to English language teaching and writing for international publications in
different countries. Her research interests include teaching writing, learner emotive responses in language learning, learning-oriented assessment, and assessment literacy of language teachers.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Quynh (also known as Quynh Nguyen) holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Melbourne, Australia. She is the founding director of the Center for Testing and
Assessment at the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS-VNU). She is currently the Director of the Department of Research,
Science and Innovation at ULIS-VNU. She is also the President of the Asian Association for Language Assessment (AALA). She has participated as a key person in many national and international
projects on education and assessment. She reviews for some journals on second language acquisition and teacher education, and has presented and published on second language education and assessment.
Terence Toh is a journalist, author, playwright and lyrics writer. Graduating from the University of Reading, UK, with a law degree, he decided instead that he preferred a writer’s life and became a
journalist. He has formerly worked at The Star and Tatler Malaysia, and is currently a writer with Free Malaysia Today Lifestyle. His work has been published in places such as Cinema Online, Poskod.my,
The Selangor Times, Cilisos, AskLegal and CultureReview Mag.
Terence is also an author, who has been published in local anthologies such as KL Noir Blue, Cyberpunk Malaysia, The Best Asian Short Stories, Hungry In Ipoh, and Lost in Putrajaya. His debut novel, ‘Toyols R Us’, won the first Fixi Novo Malaysian Novel competition.
Terence’s short scripts have been seen in local theatre productions such as ‘Tales from the Bedroom’, ‘IndicineLive VI’, ‘IndicineLive: Quaranstream Edition’, ‘4Love: Through the Decades’ and ‘IndicineLive VII’. His ten-minute plays and musicals have won awards at the Short and Sweet Musical and Theatre competitions held in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Terence has written a full-length play, ‘Me, You and the Big C’, alongside the late Dr Aini Hamid, which was staged at KLPAC in 2022. He is the co-founder of local musical theatre production group KULT Productions (alongside Kelvin Loh and Lydia Tong), who have staged four productions so far.
He has written four full-length musicals. ‘The Working Dead’ was first performed in 2019, and was nominated for 13 Boh Cameronian Arts Awards, winning three. It was restaged in PJPAC this year.
His other musicals are ‘Euphrasia’ (co-written with Cheah Uihua and produced by the Good Shepherd Sisters Malaysia), which was staged in KL, Ipoh and Sabah, the Boh Cameronian Arts Award-winning ‘Fortune Kooky’, which was staged in KL and Singapore, and ‘Dreams: The Musical’, co-written with Elaine Lee.

Vahid Nimehchisalem holds a PhD in TESL. He’s been involved in teaching English as a second and foreign language since 1996. He’s currently Associate Professor at the Faculty of Modern Languages and
Communication, UPM, and Adjunct at Taylor’s University, Malaysia. English language learning-teaching materials evaluation and language assessment are his main areas of research interest. He’s chief editor of
the International Journal of Education and Literacy Studies (IJELS), managing editor of the Journal of Language and Communication (JLC), and board member of a number of other journals in the area.
Yunisrina Qismullah Yusuf is a Professor at the Department of English Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK). She completed her Bachelor’s degree in English Education in 2002 at USK. Pursuing her passion for linguistics, she earned her Master’s degree in Linguistics in 2006 and her Ph.D. in Phonology in 2013, both from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefanie Pillai. Her dedication to academics led to her promotion to Full Professor in Phonology/Linguistics in 2021. She has contributed to various national and international journals through her publications and also serves as a reviewer, supporting the quality of research in her field. In addition to her research activities, she contributes to academic publishing through her role as the head of Pusat Pengembangan Jurnal Ilmiah (Center for Scientific Journal Development) at USK to support the university's efforts to improve its research visibility. She is the editor-in-chief of Studies in English Language and Education (SiELE), the first journal at USK to be indexed in Scopus, reflecting her dedication to academic development. Her research interests span linguistics, English education, and literature. As an educator and mentor, Prof. Yunisrina supports students and colleagues in their academic pursuits. Her work reflects a strong commitment to linguistics and English education, contributing to the academic community both in Indonesia and internationally.
